Maryknoll Convent School was founded by the Maryknoll Sisters of St. Dominic, missionaries from the United States, and the MCS story began on 11th February, 1925 with 12 kindergarten pupils in the Convent Parlour on Austin Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. As the school grew, it was expanded and relocated a couple of times before moving to the permanent site in Kowloon Tong in 1937.
Over the years, generations of young Maryknollers have walked through the school gates on their first day, embarking on a journey of learning, self-discovery, and self-empowerment. This journey begins in the school's distinctive campus and continues long after the students graduate. However, as many of the Maryknoll Sisters who had dedicated their lives to serving the school retired and moved back to the Motherhouse in New York, the Sisters decided to pass the baton to the Maryknoll alumnae community.
In 2004, the Maryknoll Convent School Foundation was established as the school sponsoring body to ensure the school could continue to operate in the original spirit adopted by the Maryknoll Sisters. The Foundation, a limited company by guarantee and a non-profit charitable organization, is entrusted with steering the strategic development of the school, supervising and overseeing its administration, and providing general direction to the school's Incorporated Management Committees. With a broad-based constitution that includes former students, Maryknoll Sisters, and former teachers and principals, the Foundation serves as a vital link between the Maryknoll heritage and the school's continued success, preserving, nurturing and enhancing the values and spirit of Maryknoll for future generations of students.
